ESTEPONA has begun the regeneration of five of its beaches that had suffered damage in the storms of the winter.
Punta Pinillos, El Angel, El Padron, Benamara and Casasola will benefit from the restoration work in time for peak season.
La Escollera beach will donate 80,000 cubic metres of its sand for the project, which is being carried out by the Coastal Demarcation.
The council also plans other improvement works to Estepona’s coastline, including steps, footpaths and toilets.
Councillor for Beaches, Susana Aragon, also confirmed that two boats will be assigned to keep with coastal water clean.
“A tourist town like Estepona cannot afford to keep the maintenance of its beaches on the backburner,” said Ms Aragon.
“We are strongly committed to improving the coastline so that it presents its best face for the large tourist influx in the coming days.”
Estepona has been awarded four blue flags this year for the quality for its beaches and services.
