Mijas Council proposes new hospital location

HEALTHIER HOSPITAL: The current facilities are not meeting the area’s needs.

MIJAS COUNCIL has submitted a proposal to the Junta de Andalucia about its preferred location for the new hospital.

While little progress has been made on overall plans, one of the few certainties was that the hospital would be based in Las Lagunas.

According to local reports, the council has presented a recommendation that the site of choice be on Avenida de Andalusia.

The location would meet requirements both for an expanded centre, as well as proximity to both Mijas and Fuengirola.

Mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado, maintains that he has been working hard on the project, and that all the preparation work is being done.

He has also emphasised that the council has asked the Junta whether the administrative process for the new hospital can be expedited.

Mr Maldonado will shortly be having a meeting with the Junta’s Health Department, where the issue of financing for the project is also likely to be discussed.
