OFFICERS of the National Police, the Guardia Civil and the Irish police have intercepted a truck carrying 170 kilos of marihuana.
The truck was on the A-45 travelling towards Cordoba, and the stash was hidden between 20 tons of lettuce.
The marihuana had been collected in Alhaurin de la Torre and according to police sources, was destined for Ireland. As a result of the operation, a significant criminal network on the Costa del Sol has been dismantled, with five people arrested in Malaga and Almeria.
An investigation began in April when the National Police received information from their Irish counterparts about a group of Irish citizens involved in drug trafficking on the coast.
Further enquiries led to the identification of several of those involved, enabling the eventual seizure of their shipment as it was in transit.
Other items seized in the haul include three computers, ten mobile phones and 20 tons of lettuce that have been sent to Lucena and Cordoba.
The five detainees have been charged with drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal group, and document falsification.
