DECISIONS taken at both provincial and regional levels of government mean that around 700 troops will be allocated this summer to help fight forest fires.
Alicante and Valencian governments have added 116 new firefighters to the already 600-strong dedicated force that are strategically located in 12 brigades across the Alicante Province, in its own fight at combating the high risk of fires due to the already excess growth of vegetation.
The brigades will be based in Villena, Font Roja, Tibi, L’Orxa, Vall d’Alcalà, Parcent, Benissa, Benimantell, Torre de les Maçanes and Xixona, which are already fully operational 365-days of the year.
In addition, those located in Relleu and Guardamar del Segura will work from May to October. The extra personnel will allow the numbers of firefighters on duty per shift to increase not only during the summer months, but now on a permanent basis.
All personnel can be deployed anywhere in the Alicante Province should the size of the fire require them.
