AFTER more than a decade of a moratorium that has been virtually self-imposed by the construction sector itself, Benidorm City Council has given its authorisation for the building of a new hotel.
The location for the new establishment will be built on the plot that is occupied by Villa San Pedro and on the seafront close to the Parque del Elche.
The existing building will be demolished. The new hotel will be four-stars and is expected to have space for 200 guests spread across eight floors and two basements.
The plot belongs to the family that also owns the historic Hotel Bilbaino, one of the first hotels to be built in the then fishing-village back in the 1920’s.
The promoters behind the new building have already been given a licence to demolish the property and have begun to clear the garden and surrounding areas of land.
Although it’s not yet known when the construction will begin, according to a story in the Spanish media everything is pointing to it commencing after the summer season to avoid any local disruption.
However, Councillor Lourdes Caselles confirmed that the decision is in the hands of the builder to start when they want, as all the necessary licences are in place.
