A REPLICA of Christopher Columbus’ famous flagship, the Nao Santa Maria, has arrived in Fuengirola.
It docked in the Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola on Saturday, and will be open to the public until July 1.
Fuengirola represents the start of a summer tour for the Nao Santa Maria, which will see it dock at Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante, and Algeciras in Spain, before heading on to France.
In October, the ship will embark on a voyage across the Atlantic to visit Puerto Rico, Cartagena, and Havana.
It is a replica of one of the most famous ships in history, which sank after hitting reefs off the Haitian coast on Christmas day 1492.
This new version was built by the Nao Victoria Foundation, in collaboration with Huelva council and the Cajasol Foundation.
It was designed to be as identical to the original as possible, weighing 200 tons, and measuring 29 metres long and 8 metres wide.
