VILLAJOYOSA Local Police have a new division – the Canine Unit.
The unit, consisting of three dogs, will work with trained agents and officers to detect illegal substances in parks, gardens, beaches, schools and vehicles.
At a special ceremony Andreu Verdú, mayor, and councillor for security Jaime Ramis met the officers and their dogs.
Jaime Ramis said: “The Canine Unit is already a reality in our town, a pioneering and highly demanding service that will contribute to improving the security of our residents.”
The dogs will provide greater security for the officers, tourists and residents at events such as the Moors and Christians fiesta. They will also perform awareness tasks, visiting schools and groups to highlight the prevention of drug.
