OFFICERS from the Guardia Civil have arrested a 43-year-old Spanish man in connection with a suspected series of robberies in homes located in Pilar de la Horadada.
According to a report in the Spanish media, the detained man was a builder by day and a robber by night as it’s understood he used his tools to break in through the security grills.
The man is believed to be behind 11 thefts, although investigations continue to see if he could be implicated in a further 16, taking the total to 27.
The Guardia Civil were alerted to the break-ins and almost immediately discovered they all had one characteristic in common, as the metal grills had been forced on the inside patios of the properties.
During the 10 weeks that the investigation lasted, a man had been followed by undercover officers and was found on the urbanisation that suffered a number of the robberies on two occasions. The man was discovered to have a history of robbery with force from houses, and when arrested the police found a selection of stolen objects in his home to the value of around €20,000.
