FIREFIGHTERS and the Local Police in Cartagena were called to an urbanisation to help free a young child who had a hand trapped in swimming pool suction tube.
According to a report in the Spanish media, the edge of the pool had to be demolished to be able to free the boy’s hand while he was in the water.
The incident happened on Thursday evening in Urbanisation El Palmeral de Los Nietos, and as the emergency services arrived – that included six firefighters – they found the youngster already showing signs of hypothermia having been in the water for some time.
After various attempts to free his arm in a number of ways were all unsuccessful, they demolished the masonry around the edge of the swimming pool and the offending pipe to gain access.
Once released, he was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital for a more thorough examination.
