MEMBERS of the Guardia Civil environmental division (SEPRONA) have confiscated a total of 300 kilos of octopus that they believe was untraceable.
The raids were carried out on two restaurants in Arenales del Sol, close to El Altet, to check whether fish species they served had all the relevant documentation for this particular product.
The inspection was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries from the Valencian Community, and in the first restaurant they found 266 kilos of frozen octopus in a chest freezer. In the other location, another 22 kilos was found which didn’t reach the legal minimum weight of one kilo each, and both were minus official papers.
SEPRONA were quick to point out that any fish that hasn’t passed through the fish markets or lacks relevant paperwork could potentially be a danger to health.
