NATIONAL POLICE officers have arrested a man in Alicante accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Guardamar del Segura.
The 32-year-old Spanish national has a long criminal record, having been arrested for a series of 30 different crimes over a period of time.
In addition to the alleged sexual assault that allegedly took place last month; the man has previously been involved in five vehicles thefts, forgery, fraud, and robbery with violence. His partner, an 18-year-old Spaniard, was also arrested for their involvement in several of the crimes.
After the woman was assaulted, the investigating officers managed to identify who the guilty party was and discovered his criminal past in the process. In fact, on the day of the assault, he was driving a vehicle that had been stolen from a town in Cadiz.
At the time of his arrest, he was also in a stolen vehicle with no paperwork for the car or a driving license. Even the ID card that he presented to the National Police on his arrest belonged to somebody else. In a further twist, the number plates on the stolen car (from the Basque Country) came from another car he’d allegedly stolen in Marbella.
After a court appearance in front of magistrates in Alicante, he was immediately sent to prison pending further legal processes.
