AN Algerian national was arrested at the port in Alicante charged with the alleged abduction of his two daughters.

According to reports, the 49-year-old took the children – aged 5 and 10-years-old – without the consent of their mother.

The report was made to the National Police in Zaragoza during the early hours of Thursday when the children’s disappearance was noticed, and within 24 hours they and their alleged abductor had been found as they attempted to embark one of the ferries setting sail from Alicante to Algeria.

Their identities came to light when their passports were being verified at the port and showed that there was already a note on the database against the names in connection with the incident.

The two girls were initially taken to the Alicante children’s home from where they were transferred to their own home city of Zaragoza where they were met by their mother early Friday morning.
