IN a continued effort to provide a higher quality of service for foreign tourists, the National Police in Benidorm will in future have a number of officers speaking in French and Italian.
Among the many millions of foreigners that choose Benidorm as their holiday destination every year, a growing number of French and Italians are among them; it’s not just the British that fill the tourist hotspot.
The aim is to make them feel a little more at home if they have a problem during their break and have to resort to the police, and simply hearing a “bonjour” or “ciao” will make all the difference.
Two members from each of the Police Nationale de France and the Polizía di Stato Italiana are already patrolling the streets with their Spanish counterparts.
The National Police in Spain have been participating in this European-based initiative for a number of years which has previously seen police from countries such as Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands spending some of the summer on the Costa Blanca.
In return, a number of National Police from other parts of Spain have gone to France and Italy to offer a similar service to Spanish nationals holidaying in those countries.
