Juvenile loggerhead turtle rescued on the Costa Blanca

TWO children who were passengers in a boat spotted a loggerhead turtle which seemed to be in distress some four kilometres from the mouth of the Torrevieja Marina.

Worried that the turtle was struggling, a member of the family jumped into the water and removed the turtle, bringing it on board and wrapping in a wet towel after alerting 112 to the discovery.

The children waited with Dipsy (as they had named it) until, it was taken by officials for care by the Department of the Environment.

This particular specimen which did appear to be in poor health has a likely age of four to five years and will hopefully be nursed back to good health so that it may be returned to the sea.
