LOCAL POLICE in Alicante have confiscated more than 1,200 fake items valued at €24,000.

The seizure comes after a series of checks on a number of mainly counterfeit football kits and shoes.

The two arrests were part of an operation that will continue for the foreseeable future as the authorities’ crackdown on this form of illegal trading on the streets.

Local Police strategically placed themselves at a number of locations in the north of the city where the selling usually takes place to deter the sellers from setting up in the first place.  In addition, they appeared on a number of TRAM trains that are regularly used as a means of getting the sellers into Alicante armed with their products.

On the second day of the operation, officers intercepted two vehicles and seized the overwhelming majority of the recently discovered items.  This was followed by another arrest as a number of pairs of counterfeit shoes were about to be distributed around sellers who had set up a pitch in the Alicante port area.
