A WOMAN is in a serious condition with burns to 70 per cent of her body after her partner allegedly set fire to her Marbella home.
It has been reported the man, thought to be her husband, may have mental health issues. He was arrested by National Police officers, and the motive was still unknown at the time of going to press.
Emergency services received a call at 2.30am Thursday morning, reporting a blaze, firecrews and a team from the Las Albarizas health centre in Torremolinos was despatched.
The critically wounded woman was immediately transferred to the Regional Hospital of Malaga. There it was agreed by specialists that she should be airlifted to the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Sevilla, due to the severity of her injuries.
On hearing of the incident, Maria Gamez, of the city’s Governments’ sub-delegation, expressed her sadness and concern on Twitter.
She wrote: “I am concerned about the health of a Marbella woman with very severe burns caused by her partner in a possible new case of gender-based violence. Violence against women remains chilling.”
