A WOMAN and her five-year-old child were left trapped in a car after an accident in Albufereta.
Just after 8am on Monday morning a car going towards Alicante on the Avenida de la Condomina was apparently hit by another with such force that the first car was turned on its side.
Firefighters were quickly on the scene, with the rescuers managing to free the child through one of the windows.
The emergency services say that the child was unharmed due mainly to it being properly restrained in a safety seat.
However, it took nine firefighters using specialist tools to cut through the damaged car to rescue the 32-year-old woman.
Once released, she was taken to the local hospital for further treatment. Her child accompanied her, and was admitted for observation after the traumatic experience.
Both cars were taken away by towing vehicles. The reason for the crash remains unknown, but the driver of the other vehicle, which is thought to have hit the first car from behind, was both uninjured and returned a negative alcohol test.
