THE GUARDIA CIVIL has arrested three hit-men who allegedly shot dead a 46 year-old man in Mijas, and seriously wounded his girlfriend.
The incident took place at dawn on August 19, 2016, in the Calypso district, where the Columbian couple were approached from behind.
Receiving seven bullets through his back, the man died while his girlfriend managed to survive despite being shot seven times.
The Guardia Civil’s investigation established that the attack was a settling of scores related to drugs trafficking, and the assassins had links to an international criminal organisation, rooted in the Netherlands.
The criminal group is believed to be in a serious dispute with a rival organisation relating to cocaine trafficking.
A lengthy investigation involving the cooperation of police and judicial authorities in the Netherlands, Norway and Columbia resulted in the successful identification of all four perpetrators.
A European Arrest Warrant assisted officers in tracking down and arresting the men, two of whom are Dutch and one is Norwegian.
The detainees have been charged with murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons, drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal organisation.
Another Dutchman is believed to have been involved in the murder, but he was killed in a shootout in Medellin (Columbia) in December 2016.
As part of operation “Romeral,” five houses were searched across the Costa del Sol, and three guns with ammunition were seized.
An indoor plantation of cannabis was also found, along with 1.5 kilograms of amphetamine and one kilograms of hashish.
