Costa Blanca Hospital repairs finally underway

POOR STATE: Villajoyosa Hospital suffered several ceiling collapses Photo credit: Roberto Manuel Wikimedia

AFTER several minor ceiling collapses in the Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa in less than 18 months, a programme of emergency work is now underway to replace 10,000m2 of plaster.  The cost is estimated to be €600,000.

Both members of staff and patients had complained about the continuous poor state of repair in the hospital’s corridors, operating theatres and offices and were concerned that it would only be a matter of time before another incident if nothing was done.

The work began last weekend (and end tomorrow (Saturday)) and was concentrated on the first floor where most of the out-patient departments are located.  Around 1,000 patients were affected although had their appointments transferred to other health centres in Benidorm or La Nucia.
