URBANISATION La Marina woke up to the very sad news that 10-year-old Nigel Watson died during the early hours of this morning.

His mum, Jackie, posted on Facebook: “It’s with great sadness to tell you that Nigel gained his angel wings this morning.”

Among the many tributes that have already been placed, one summed up everybody’s feelings as the news broke. “He will always be remembered for his bravery and will never be forgotten. Everyone was blessed to have him in their lives. God bless.”

Thousands of people right across the Costa Blanca and beyond had been following his plight since he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer – DIPG – during the early part of this year.

The community rallied around at every possible opportunity to raise funds towards treatment that he underwent in Pamplona, Madrid and Alicante, but even though the prognosis was not good, they carried on fighting and praying for this little boy right to the end.
