THE first week of October each year brings again World Animal Day, when animal lovers raise cash and awareness about the plight of abandoned and unwanted animals.

ADANA, the Estepona-based dog rescue and rehoming charity, was out in force collecting donations and handing out leaflets outside local supermarket Carrefour.

ADANA Volunteers were joined by pupils from Laude International School San Pedro and as well as a substantial amount of money, food and blankets were collected for dogs awaiting adoption in the shelter at Los Pedregales.

Volunteer Organiser, Susie Brown, said she was delighted both by the number of volunteers who turned out to help and by the public response.

“The people of Estepona and the surrounding areas are very generous, which is fortunate for ADANA as we rely entirely on donations from the public.”

ADANA’S next big event, the annual Christmas fair, will be held at the Estepona Palacio de Congresos, on Sunday, November 25.
