ALICANTE-ELCHE Airport passenger numbers are flying high once again following a 5.5 per cent growth for the month of October.
Figures released by airport managers AENA show the terminals handled 1,349,587 passengers during the month, still classed as high season, and an increase compared to the same time last year.
Despite some worrying dips during July, August and September it was the British tourists that saved the day and accounting for 549,101 passengers for October.
The growth in national, internal travellers stands out with an increase of 15.4 per cent when compared with 2017, although it’s international tourism that has helped boost the monthly returns once again.
Travellers from the UK lead the list, as always, with close to 550,000 and are followed by those from Germany (102,114); Holland (92,120); Norway (72,866) and Belgium (61,509).
The accumulated numbers for the first ten months of the year for Alicante-Elche Airport show a total of 12,261,933 passengers and a slight increase of 0.8 per cent compared to this time last year; so the airport is on course to once again have its busiest year ever.
