BENALMADENA’S Puerto Deportivo has been selected as the venue to present Andalucia’s 16th underwater ecological day.
Raising awareness among visitors, sailors and all those who enjoy the sea about the importance of not polluting it by leaving behind harmful products, is the main aim of the event.
The initiative has the full support of the council, as well as the Andalucian Federation of Underwater Activities and the Benalmadena Diving Centre.
The event, taking place tomorrow, has been presented by Encarnacion Cortes, Councillor for Tourism, and the Port manager Manuel Jimenez.
More than 80 people, including divers and volunteers from across Spain, will dive into the Port’s waters and carry out a clean-up operation.
Councillor Cortes invited residents to come to the Port on Saturday to see the kind of dangerous waste that is thrown into the sea, harming the marine ecosystem.
