MARBELLA Mayor, Angeles Muñoz, has opened the 47th edition of the Assembly of the European Olympic Committees.
She was joined by the presidents of the International Olympic Committee, the European Committee, the Spanish Committee, and the Andalucia Tourism Minister.
“This is a hugely important event for the city, making Marbella the showpiece of the international Olympic movement,” said mayor Muñoz.
“Once again we have demonstrated that we are a leading choice to host events of great stature and media coverage.”
The assembly is taking place today and tomorrow at the Don Carlos hotel, and 350 representatives of 50 European Olympic Committees are attending.
Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, said:
“When the opportunity arose to host this assembly in Spain, the only city I contacted was Marbella.
“I will support this city in its exceptional promotion of sport.”
