The office of National Statistics has released figures showing that more than 20% of recent deaths in UK are coronavirus related.
Week ending 3rd April saw a total of 16,000 deaths of which 3,475 death certificates mentioned coronavirus. This raises the expected number of deaths by 6,000 for this period. This is the largest number of deaths for the period since 2015, when the flu epidemic broke. The office of National statistics data is based on death certificates, not hospital records, so varies from those reported figures.
