Barack Obama, former US President is not enamored with Trump’s Handling of the crisis.
In a private conference call, he called the US handling of the pandemic “an absolute chaotic disaster”.
The comment was made whilst inviting former staff to join Joe Biden’s team looking for Presidential re election.
The White House defended Trump saying
“Mr Trumps unprecedented”action had saved Americans’ lives”.
Obama went on further to say
“It would have been bad even with the best of government. It has been an absolute chaotic disaster when that mindset of ‘what’s in it for me’ and ‘to heck with everybody else’, when that mindset is operationalised in our government.”
To date there are more than 77,000 deaths in the US and 1.2 million confirmed cases. These are the highest recorded figures anywhere in the world. Many states now having removed lockdown to enable staff to return to work.
Trump stated in February the crisis would disappear, then admitted in Mid March it was a problem. In April suggesting drinking disinfectant could prevent the virus made him the laughing stock of the world. Last week the announcement was made that the coronavirus task force would be disbanded, quickly followed by a retraction stating it would continue but with more focus on restarting the economy
