The recent verbal abuse of a Transgender woman in Benidorm, by a police officer, has taken another step forwards.
LGBTI Rights, yesterday filed an official complaint with the Deputy Prosecutor for Hate Crimes and Discrimination in Alicante. The recent incident of verbal abuse was filmed on the phone of a colleague whilst it was happening. It was then posted on social media, where it received a massive negative response.
This official complaint follows a similar filing by Valencia’s LGBT and the ongoing investigation by the Ministry of Justice. Benidorm City Council immediately suspended the officer in question, pending results of the investigation.
The LGTB commented that “it deeply deplores the humiliation that this woman suffered from agents whose function is precisely to defend her rights. Amongst which is to be treated with respect and according to her identity as gender”
