Donald Trump has said that a warning from the country’s top infections expert regarding lifting the lockdown too quickly was “not acceptable”. Dr Antony Fauci, a leading light in infectious diseases, was accused of “wanting to play all sides of the equation” over the COVID-19 pandemic by the President.
Mr Trump went on to say at a meeting at the White House on Wednesday that he was also dissatisfied with Dr Fauci’s caution over reopening schools too soon. He added that what would be acceptable would be to give older teachers and professors a few more weeks before they return as “this is a disease that attacks age and health”.
The corona virus has infected more than 1.4 million people in the US and killed over 84,000.
