Easyjet to start flights as long as masks worn

The airline announces it will return to scheduled flights next month with strict rules in place.

The low-cost carrier said it would begin with a small number of flights from June 15th only to France and within the United Kingdom, before adding more destinations later.

Passengers and staff including cabin crew will be required to wear face masks on board, the airline said, while aircraft will be subject to strict cleaning measures.

“When more restrictions are lifted the schedule will continue to build over time to match demand,” said EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren.

The UK airports to see the limited services return include Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle,Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Belfast, the company said.

Shares in the airline were up more than 2.5% at the start of trading today after a fall of 60% since the start of the year.
