Germany’s infection rate rises after relaxation of lockdown measures

The Robert Koch Institute has reported Germanies R Rate is now above 1. This R rate defines how many people 1 person infects.

As calls came from large gatherings in Germany yesterday for a total end to lockdown, this report is not timed well.

The relaxation of many national restrictions were announced last Wednesday by Angela Merkel.

“All shops are allowed to reopen, pupils will gradually return to class and the Bundesliga – Germany’s top football league – will restart as soon as next weekend.”

Latest figures for Germany are 169,200 infections and 7,395 deaths. The death toll for Germany is lower than many European neighbours.

Local authorities can revoke the relaxation if cases rise to more than 50/100,000 in their area.
