Golf: The European Tour has announced its golf series is to resume in July with the British Masters

The golf competition will resume from July 21st it has been confirmed.

The Betfred British Masters will begin on the 21st at Close House Golf Club near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and then will be followed by the English Open from July 30 thto August the 2nd at the Marriott Forest of Arden near Birmingham

The English Championship will run from August the 6th to the 9th at Marriott Hanbury Manor.

The British Masters will be hosted by English professional Lee Westwood.

European Tour Chief Executive Keith Pelley said in a statement.“We have consistently said that safety is our priority and that is why today we are announcing our resumption in two months’ time.”

“Initially, therefore, based on the expert guidance we received, playing in clusters, in one territory, is the best option in terms of testing, travel and accommodation.”

The European Tour season is expected to consist of as many as 24 events following the creation of five new 144-man field tournaments that it is self-funding.

Each golf competition will have a purse of 1 million euros and a 500,000 euro bonus pool  taken from the tour’s tournament development fund.

The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, will also host the Celtic Classic and the Wales Open, both in August.

The PGA Championship will take place in October at England’s Wentworth Club.
