Man City transfer news and gossip

As football looks set to return to England, clubs have been vying for the aquisition of top stars to get finish their campaigns off in a winning way.

Spain international, Ismael Bennacer, looks set to join Manchester City as manager Pep Guardiola has made the AC Milan star his number one target.

David Silva looks a dead cert to leave the club after ten years at the club and Pep needs a replacement.

Manchester City are said to beat Manchester United to sign ‘David Silva heir’ ,  Thiago Almada  who has impressed in his native Argentina this season whilst playing for Velez Sarsfield.

The 19 year old has been compared to fellow compatriot Lionel Messi.

Across town, Manchester United are closing in on Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez who is currently at Atletico Madrid.

Reports are that the deal is pretty much done at a price way below the player’s release clause of £132million has been bargained nearer to £70million.

In other stories, it is claimed that Virgil van Dijk had the chance to join Manchester City, however City rejected the chance to sign him despite a recommendation from his then manager.

Ronny Deila, who was the Van Dijk’s boss at Celtic, told football magazine Goal:

“Did I get in touch with City? Yes. I said you have to take him. They said, ‘okay, tell me the best European game he has played and we will watch it’.

“I couldn’t tell them what game that was because he hadn’t had any real good European games. He was really dominant in Scotland but he got sent off against Inter away.

“That was a big test. I think if he had played fantastically in that game, he would have been bought.

“I think the big clubs think Scottish football is too low level and they don’t want to take a chance on a player for that kind of money. In Europe, then you can show how good you are. I think van Dijk was good, but he didn’t have that one really, really good game in Europe.”
