Leaving the White House for Michigan on Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump told reporters that he had tested “positively towards negative” regarding the corona virus.
Here is his statement in full.
“I tested very positively in another sense. I tested positively towards negative. I tested perfectly this morning, meaning I tested negative”.
His awkward statement came as he was due to visit a Ford plant that has been converted to build ventilators and PPE to help in the fight against the virus. It was the latest in a long line of statements and announcements that have caused a backlash against the President. Earlier this week he announced that he had been taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti malaria drug although his own health agency said it was ineffective against the virus.
