Costa Blanca, Spain – A woman has died today after drowning at sea it has emerged.
The tragedy happened at El Campello’s Playa del Carrer La Mar.
The beach was reopened yesterday along with the rest of the municipalities beaches to swimmers and sunbathers.
The woman, aged 35, was reported to be struggling at sea with other people going to her rescue.
She was dragged onto the beach and a passerby with medical training managed to revive her.
However, she succumbed to her trauma whilst with emergency services on her way to the nearest hospital.
There were no lifeguard services on the beach, nor a police presence as had been reported there would be in the weeks until opening of the beaches.
In another incident, a 22-year-old girl was also rescued in the adjoining area of San Juan.
She had difficulty in getting out of the sea, but managed to recover from her ordeal.
The government have asked people to be cautious.
